Last year, the healthcare field was named as the “most breached industry” despite healthcare provider’s (supposed) adherence to and hyper-focus on the security standards outlined in the regulations added to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). I will be covering what HIPAA is, what security measures are outlined within the HIPAA Security Rule (enacted in 2003), the types of breaches that have occurred in the health care field last year, the impact of healthcare breaches, and steps to be taken to remedy this.
