The Breach That Wasn't

DEF CON 20

Presented by: Sam Bowne
Date: Saturday July 28, 2012
Time: 13:00 - 13:25
Location: Skytalks

This is the true inside story of security professionals and government officials who decided to falsify a PII breach for political gain, working with obedient newspaper reporters who printed total fabrications, creating an international scandal earlier this year. A group of responsible employees, working with less senior security professionals, defeated this plot and brought punishment down on the principal offenders. However, the general public may never know the truth because the only media coverage was the original fabrication produced by the criminals.
