A Pretty Sweet Presentation: How To (Maybe Not) Honeypot

BSides SATX 2017

Presented by: Alexander Klepal
Date: Saturday May 20, 2017
Time: 14:00 - 15:00
Location: Richter 214
Track: Track 1

A talk about my experience attempting to run a honeypot on an AWS (Amazon Web Services) instance, getting locked out, attempting to break back in, and failing miserably. The story is redeemed when I spin up another box and actually get infected.

Ever want to try and run a honeypot? Me too! I had a great time with this independent class assignment for my Cyber Attack and Defend course. This adventure contains some hard-learned lessons (defensive, offensive, and analytical), some jokes, and an A on the assignment.
