So as I was trying to describe to a layperson (Alice) how anyone can download powerful hacking and/or security software from the Internet for no charge. Alice then said “Wait, How is all this stuff free? How is it possible that such powerful software is available to anyone on the Internet for no cost?” Since “Because it’s just like that” was not a good answer, I decided to research that very question. Since history can be a bit dull and dry at times, I decided to wrap the history lesson into a tale of woe in which a kitteh may or may not get harmed.
